About HotShots

What is HotShots?

HotShots Youth Sports is a part of the Educational Opportunites for Children and Families (EOCF) program in Vancouver, Washington. HotShots caters to boys and girls in grades 1-6 who are interested in playing basketball on a recreational level.

HotShots was created in 1998 by Richard Camp. After his retirement following the 2009-2010 season, Shannon LeBle' took over as the HotShots Program Director, with a continued emphasis on customer service and keeping the program focused on the children.

HotShots Philosophy:

HotShots believes that the primary reason a child plays youth sports is simply to have FUN. Our goal is to provide every player the opportunity to grow in the love of basketball, improve their skills, practice good sportsmanship, build friendships, learn teamwork, and have FUN - in a safe and positive atmosphere.

Who Plays HotShots?

HotShots basketball is for boys and girls grades 1 - 6 in the Vancouver area. Teams are formed based on gender (we have separate teams for boys and girls), grade level, and school. Players can register individually or as a team of 10. Practices and games are held in school gyms throughout the Vancouver and Evergreen school districts.

Teams from other districts are valued and welcome in the program, but must provide their own practice gym.

Individual players from other districts are welcome to join HotShots, but will be placed on a Vancouver or Evergreen team.

When & Where Are HotShots Practices Held?

Teams practice for one hour, once a week, on either a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evening. Practices are held at elementary school gyms in the Vancouver and Evergreen school districts. Practice start times vary depending on the school, but typical start times are 5:00pm, 5:15pm, 6:00pm, 6:15pm, 7:00pm, or 7:15pm. Earlier practices are typically reserved for grades 1-3, and later practice times are typically reserved for grades 4-6.

The head coach for each team will choose a practice site as close to the home area of their team as possible, along with the day and time, from a list provided to HotShots by the Vancouver and Evergreen school districts. Requests for a certain practice day for your child are difficult to coordinate, as the coach chooses the team's practice day, not the league. Please be aware that practices may be canceled on occasion, due to school acitivities, holidays, inclement weather or other conflicts. Teams are not guaranteed a certain number of practices. The league fee is based on many factors, but not on practice time.

Please note: HotShots can provide a practice gym for teams within the Vancouver and Evergreen school districts only. Teams from outside these districts are valued and welcome in the HotShots program, but must obtain and pay for their own practice gym.

When & Where Are Games?

Games are played Friday evenings and throughout the day on Saturday, in elementary and middle school gyms throughout the Vancouver and Evergreen school districts. Whether your team plays on Friday or Saturday will be dependent on your coach and what his/her game requests are. We've attempted to schedule HotShots seasons as conveniently as possible, knowing that many of our players also do other sports. While making schedules, HotShots keeps in mind where teams are from, attempting to schedule as many games as possible close to home. You'll play teams from all over Vancouver however, so it'll be necessary to occasionally play "away".
